Sterling G. Thompson Company began as a sole proprietorship in Louisville in 1937. Sterling Thompson, the company founder, employed his nephew Jack R. Thompson after World War II. Jack Thompson assumed ownership and brought in his son, Steve B. Thompson, in 1973. In 1982, R. Alex Rankin joined the firm after a short career in commercial banking.
The agency has enjoyed a history of steady growth and now has offices in Louisville and Shelbyville, Kentucky. The skills and professionalism of our employees coupled with the relationship approach to service give our clients unique and refreshing results.
We provide insurance and risk management products focused on handling our clients' needs and have relationships with the most financially stable and competitive insurance carriers. These partnerships allow us to offer creative and innovative solutions to our clients.
Steve B. Thompson and R. Alex Rankin, the agency principals, have both earned the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter designation held by fewer than 100 agents in the state. The agency has been named a "Best Practices Firm" which is awarded to the top 25% of all insurance agencies.
